The Danes founded the ancient town of Grimsby in the 9th Century, the city soon became a port as it was situated on the River Haven, and many goods were imported and exported from the dock. During the twelfth century, Grimsby formed into a bustling minimal port. Boats brought wood from Norway and wine from France and Spain. Coal was obtained via the ocean along the coast of Newcastle. In the Middle, Ages fleece was sent out from Grimsby. The importation of coal and grain became popular, and new Quays were built in the town.
